Apple Dumpling Recipe
This apple dumpling recipe is one of our all time favorite desserts. Apple dumplings are much tastier than apple pie. They are basted in a brown sugar syrup that soaks all the way through the dumpling. They taste good warm out of the oven on their own or garnish with vanilla ice cream or whip cream. We suggest using tart cooking apples. The tartness of the apples compliments the sweetness of the brown sugar syrup. Basting the dumplings while they are baking is also a very important step. Apple Dumpling Ingredients
Heat oven to 425 degrees. Cut each rolled pie crust in fours to make a total of 8 dumplings. Place apples on each square. If desired, mix raisins and nuts and fill each center of the apples. Bring pasty up over apples and press together, as if wrapping a package. Place dumplings in an ungreased baking dish, about an 11 1/2 x7 1/2 x1 1/2 Mix brown sugar and water together and gently pour around and on top of the dumplings. Spoon or baste syrup over dumplings about 4-5 times during baking. Bake for about 40 minutes or until crust is golden brown and apples are tender. You may need to cover the dumplings at the end so the crust doesn't brown too much while the apples are cooking. Serve warm or cool;if desired top with whip cream or ice cream. Makes 8 servings.
