Bathtub Refinishing

bathtub refinishing

Have you been wondering about bathtub refinishing or a new color for a tile backsplash? Bathtub refinishing to take care of a stained tub or painting tile to update your bathroom or kitchen is really worth the effort?

Maybe a complete remodel is not in the budget or you may rent a house or an apartment. Epoxy paint is an affordable way to update and refinish.

Bathtub refinishing was entirely new to me and I also had my hesitations.I refinished a stained tub with a $30.00 tub, tile and sink kit I purchase at our local hardware store. It was easy, but we were not able to use the tub for 72 hours, so plan ahead.

The tub I refinished is in an old house. It's a cast iron tub that had a lot of rust and dirt stains. We were amazed at how great the tub looked when completed.

There are 3 steps, clean and prepare the surface, masking, and application. Cleaning and preparing the surface is a very important step to make sure the paint adheres and dries properly. Let the surface dry completely after painting. Do not hurry the process and ruin your hard work.

I found a few things out the hard way that I will share with you. As stated in the instruction pamphlet, that I some how overlooked !!!??? After the refinishing job is complete, do not use bath mats or suction cups as these will lift paint. Use something more permanent such as adhesive strips if slipping is a problem.

Do not place any thing rubber such as a drain stopper on the sides of the tub. I'm not sure why, but rubber lifts the paint over time. I recommend using a shower caddy to store all your bathing supplies.

Drain-No or any other chemical used for drains will damage the paint. Use a funnel so the chemical does not splatter on the tub.

Since I lived and learned, a couple years later I did a little touching up on our tub. I still had the originally kit and the epoxy paint was still good. It took no time to touch up and the tub still looks 100% better without the rust and dirt stains. In my opinion the bathtub refinishing project was well worth the effort.
