Bedroom Decorating Ideas

When brainstorming bedroom decorating ideas, guest bedrooms usually are at the bottom of the list. Most guest bedrooms become the storage room or decorated with left over furniture or hand-me-downs.

If the hand-me-downs are antiques, that doesn't mean old and boring. Bring antique pieces to the future by painting them or by using accessories to make them look updated.

Some people would say you should never paint an antique. In my opinion, the original style of the piece will not be covered up with paint or new hardware.

If you like natural wood pieces..........update with accessories such as bedding, art, rugs, and pillows.

Antique furniture can be mixed with many different decors contemporary, modern, cottage, country, traditional, eclectic. It's the style not the age of the furniture that will determine your home decor.

I'm more of an eclectic person myself.....a mix of cottage, casual traditional with a splash of modern. I like to make a statement in a room with accessories. I prefer warm woods and neutral colors when it comes to bigger elements such as furniture, walls and floors.

Art is a big part of me, therfore, I incorporate art into all my decorating ideas in our house including bedroom decorating ideas . Whether it's a painting or simply a painted frame, art is what gives the room interest, color and personality.

Warm up the space with rugs, pillows, drapes, and upholstering. Keep knick knacks to a minimum.....over accessorizing can junk up a place.

Our guest bedroom is filled with hand me down furniture that used to be our great grandparents. The furniture dates back to the early 1900's. The wicker chair used to sit on great grandma Scott's front porch.

Our huge cedar chest is a Genuine Tennessee Aromatic Red Cedar, from Forest Park Line. It belonged to Greg's Great Aunt Zola and traveled from Ohio to California and back to Ohio over the years. There's more storage space on the inside than I know what to do with.

We chose to maintain the natural wood of the furniture with the exception of the dresser...........I painted the top an apple green.

I like my antique hand me downs. We have a piece of the past that we brought back to the future with accessories.

It's also a guest bedroom for any age, whether it's our grandkids or an adult visiting........anyone can be comfortable in the room.
