Christmas TopiariesThese Christmas topiaries made from eucalyptus and ivy are another simple project for holiday decorating. They are just the right size to bring holiday cheer to a tabletop, buffet or console. For the ivy topiaries; straight pin or glue real or silk ivy leaves of various sizes onto a foam cone. Starting with the largest leaves at the bottom, than work up with smaller leaves. Insert a twig into the cone for the trunk, then insert the trunk into a painted terra cotta pot filled with plastic foam. Spanish moss covers the foam; snow spray adds the wintery glisten.
The eucalyptus topiaries are made with foam balls. Poke the stem of the eucalyptus into the foam ball, cover completely with the eucalyptus. Insert a twig into the cone for the trunk, then insert the trunk into a terra cotta pot filled with plastic foam. Spanish moss covers the foam. You can be creative and add berries for more holiday cheer. Tiny pine cones or small ball ornaments can be used to cover the foam. A ceramic pot or any other type of pot can also be used for these Christmas topiaries. The eucalyptus topiaries can also hang from a doorway. Just attach ribbon or decorative string at the top of the foam ball. IF you don't have empty flower pots, look in a craft/art supply store. I saw terra cotta pots for $1 at Pat Catans Craft and Art Supplies. White or green foam cones and foam balls can be used. I used white foam on both projects and the eucalyptus and ivy cover them well so no white shows through.
