Designer Lighting
You don't have to spend a small fortune on designer lighting to have lighting with style. Decorative lighting comes in many shapes, sizes and prices. I have an obsession for table lamps, floor lamps, and pendant lamps. I love lighting with candles and setting the ambiance for a room or even the outdoors. Repurpose and upcycling is a great alternative for one of a kind, unique lighting. I repurposed two small $7.00 chandeliers I found at Restores and a salvage yard. The chandeliers are now a couple sweet looking funky chandeliers for my granddaughters, Skylar's vintage bedroom and Jadyn's "narly" beach theme bedroom. When purchasing table lamps and floor lamps be careful when purchasing shades. Decorative colored shades are attractive but you may not like the type of light they illuminate. A solid industrial shade such as a galvanized shade will illuminate light in the direction it is aimed, making it great as a floor lamp over a desk or reading area. Decide on the type of lighting that is needed for a room. The type of lighting you have for your office will probably be different than the type of lighting you want for your bedroom. Changing dated lighting in a room makes a big impact for little money. Give it a try and see what a difference it makes in a room or outdoors. Updating lighting to your front entrance is a small change but a big improvement. Decorating a room with pendant lamps is an easy way to add light and decor at the same time. Pendant lamps fit well over nightstands, in a corner, on covered porches, in the kitchen and used as chandeliers. The candle pendant lamp pictured above is used as a chandelier. Floor lamps are placed through out the dining room to aluminate more light when needed. Bring outdoor lights indoors. My daughter has an outdoor lantern hanging in her front hall entrance. The ceilings in her front entrance are high so it works very well. She updated just by making a few changes with lighting throughout her house. My idea book on Houzz.com has a few of my favorite picks. See how much character each one adds to each of the rooms and how the lighting adds to the ambiance.
