Etched Glassware
Etched glassware can be made from a variety of different clear glassware pieces. Dishes, containers, and bottles such as milk, olive oil, vinegar or wine can be upgraded with frosted embellishments. It's a good way to dress up a glass contianer for a gift. Fill the contianer with candy, cookies, or any homemade item. The gift receiver will have the etched glass container long after the goodies are gone. I used a white frost glass paint to give these containers an etched glass effect. I cleaned the containers and defined the areas to be painted with masking tape. For motifs use self adhesive vinyl stencils. I brushed a conditioner on the areas to be painted. The conditioner helps the paint adhere to the glass surface. It takes no time at all to dry. Apply the white frost paint with a paint brush or the sponge that is provided. At least two coats is suggested. Let the paint dry about one hour between coats. Remove the tape and stencil before the last coat dries.
I added a third coat after I removed the tape and stencil. Add enough coats until the frosted effect becomes apparent. Other ideas include adding frosted or painted flower borders to clear glass plates. Apply paint to the under sides for dishes that will hold food. Frost special occasion barware, tumblers, carafes, goblets or martini glasses with different designs or holiday motifs such as holly berries and leaves. Paint the glass of a photo frame with phrases. Frame a mirror with a stenciled border treatment or frosted bevel. Painted dishes are not limited to clear glass. For white or any other color dish use glass paint with
color to paint motifs or designs. Using a glass etching paint kit
