Exterior Home Decorating

With little dollars, a whole lot of labor, and some exterior home decorating, the outside of your home can shine with dignity. A few landscaping changes, a couple yard decorations and the creation of some outdoor spaces can change your home dramatically. Just be careful with any helping hands, they may have a different idea when it comes to exterior home decorating.

Here are two front entryways that can be used for ideas. The first is a small lake cottage and a the second a 2 story colonial.

The lake cottage was a real eyesore to the neighborhood. There was a lot of character and possibilities hidden under the cluttered yard and shabby house. Other people saw a hopeless small house that was an eyesore to the street.

This was a gem that was found on the lake with a future dream of one day becoming a larger home, but until than it needed some exterior home decorating help. After all was said and done the neighbors confessed to watching an ugly duckling transform into a cute little cockatoo.

First the yard needed some attention. It was filled with weeds, railroad ties, bricks, and rocks. The weeds were removed and the other stuff was rearanged in the yard. The bricks became a sidewalk to the front door, the railroad ties lined the sidewalk and front yard. The rocks were placed on the hillside down to the lake with ivy and plants growing around them. The house needed some TLC so landscaping ideas came latter.

The exterior had Masonite shingles that were a faded yellow. The exterior was painted a tan color with white trim. Next came the accessories, which play a very important role in a home inside and outside. The metal awnings were found at a home salvage yard. They were covered with colorful outdoor canvas and placed above the front door, and windows .

The front door was replaced with a wood French door that also came from the home salvage yard. The old light for the door was replaced with a simple new light. The old metal mail box was replaced with a new wood mailbox that was stained to match the front door. It's pretty amazing what a little exteior home decorating can do!
