Halloween Decorating Ideas

Have you came up with any simple Halloween Decorating Ideas yet this year? It's that time of year, when leaves start changing colors and the temperatures start getting a little nippy, fall is definitely in the air. I love Halloween and every year I try to come up with a couple new decorating ideas.

This year I created Halloween Ghost Lanterns and Halloween Goodie Jars. These are inexpensive, easy to make and are great Halloween party decorations. I like to give them as gifts with goodies inside.

I'm not a pack rat but I do save certain things, glass jars are one of those things. This year I reused the jars and made a cookie jar, a couple candy jars, and ghost lanterns.

Materials used for Halloween Cookie and Candy Jars;

  • Wood Heads (Witch, Mummy, and Frankenstein) I cut my heads from the bodies of inexpensive Halloween decorations I found at the flea market.
  • Jars with Lids (different shapes and sizes)
  • Brown Craft Paper
  • Mod Podge
  • Glue

How to put together;

I used mod podge and craft paper to cover the lids. After the lids were covered with craft paper I applied one coat of mod podge to the lids. Next, removed the heads from the bodies of the Halloween decorations and glued them onto the lids. I painted the witch lid black and left the mummy and Frankenstein lids the color of the craft paper.

Now the goodie jars are ready to be filled with candy corn and spiderweb cookies.

Materials used for Ghost Lanterns

  • White and Black Gift Wrap Tissue Paper
  • Assorted Size Jars
  • Mod Podge
  • 10 Gauge Wire

How to put together;

Tear pieces of white tissue paper and cover reusable jars with white tissue paper using mod podge. Cut out faces, witches or other Halloween decoration with the black tissue paper. Attach the decorations to the ghost lanterns with mod podge. Let the ghost lanterns dry and than proceed.

Cut wire to place around the outside rim of the opening. Tighten the wire and twist to secure. Cut enough wire for hanging the lanterns. Place the wire on each side of the lantern and loop around wired rim. Place candles on the inside and they are ready to hang.

Last year I made Pumpkin Jar Lanterns and another version of Candy Jars. Who knows what I will come up with for next year reusing my saved jars.
