Holiday DecorHoliday Decorating and Holiday Parties
Our biggest holiday decorating time is October through December. Halloween decorating, fall decorating and Christmas decorating are probably the three biggest holidays for everyone to decorate and have parties. For those of us that enjoy making crafts, decorating and entertaining guests, holidays are a good time to get the creative juices flowing. We do not decorate for every holiday. We usually have special food that is related to holidays or traditions such as super bowl or family night with food and a movie. I have noticed how kids young and old like traditions, they may squawk about it, but they start counting on them. It doesn't matter if it's a holiday tradition or every Friday night is family night making pizza. We all carry our family traditions through the years and have fun making new ones.
Easter is a good example, we do not decorate for Easter. We color eggs with the kids, have an easter egg hunt, and they usually receive a basket of goodies from the Easter Bunny. These activities are usually followed by a meal with ham being the star entree. Some holidays make great parties like Mardi Gras. There's a lot of great food that is associated with Mardi Gras. Jambalaya, Crawfish Chowder, and Gumbo to name a few. King Cake is another great New Orleans and Mardi Gras tradition along with great drinks like the Hurricane. Mardi Gras parties not only have a lot of great food that can be served. It's filled with party ideas for fun and decorating by using beads and Mardi Gras mask or having a Mardi Gras mascaraed. The change of seasons is another way to decorate. Have you ever noticed your neighbor's front door? There is usually a wreath or some ornament announcing spring, summer, fall or winter.
Fall is my favorite time for the outdoors. It's a great time to bring the outdoors in with colorful leaves, pinecones and many other treasures to use for craft projects. We love summer picnics whether it's a small picnic at the park, along a hiking trail or a big family picnic in the back yard. Family picnics are fun to plan with games, good food along with fun creative ways to make the occasion more festive with a few simple ideas. The weather is unpredictable in the summer time, so a back up plan for an indoor picnic will make the transition easier. No matter the season, holiday or tradition, we hope you find some inspiration in our simple ideas and holiday craft projects along with a few simple recipes that may fit the occasion.
