Home Decorating Pictures

Home decorating pictures do not have to be limited to painting on canvas or paper. Creating art on different objects can be more fun than on paper or canvas. It makes for a one of a kind, unique art piece.

Art isn't just about drawing a picture and painting it, it's more about mixing colors and objects, breaking all the rules to come up with something unique.

Pictured are a few of those art pieces that were fun to create.

These are shutters that were screwed together by placing two pieces of boards on the top and bottom back of the shutters. Next came (1)stuffing rags between each shutter, (2)painting all the shutters and rags with a solid color, (3)and than finishing with splashes of different colors. The piece is about 4ft wide and makes quite a statement on the wall.

This umbrella painting was copied from a picture in a home decorating magazine. It was in the background of the picture, but it caught the eye.

It looked like it was painted on canvas, this one is painted on two pieces of plywood. This is a perfect example of how a home decorating picture can be transformed into something unique.

The plywood was connected together by screwing two boards on the back side, one on the top, the other on the bottom of the painting. The plywood was painted with primer to keep the colors from absorbing in the wood.

Next the drawing was sketched and than color was added. The grain of the wood shows through giving the piece texture.

This dock was painted on cotton canvas material.

It is similar to making a canvas rug except it wasn't finished with polyurethane since it would be hanging on the wall and not laying on the floor.

After cutting the canvas, the edges were folded under and than iron on adhesive was used to make the hem.

Next the canvas was painted with white paint, the picture was sketched and acrylic paint was used for the rest. Prisma color pencils also work very well on this canvas.

The dock was located at our lake cottage and brings back great memories of the kids swimming, hot air ballons gliding over and some laid back evenings sipping a beverage.

The shape of this board is what makes it unique. It looks like something that came from a piece of furniture.

First the board was sanded so the paint would stick to it. Next the long Indian figures were sketched and than painted with acryllic paint. It was finished with a coat of clear polyurethane to give it a little shine.

Art is an expression of ourself. Mixing traditional art work with unique art pieces can make the walls in our homes more interesting. There are a lot of different materials that can be used for wall art. You don't have to be an artist to create something different.

We can all find inspiration from seeing what other people have done, walking through home decorating stores, looking at magazines, or searching home decorating web sites.

Great places to look for unusual materials are antique junk stores, salvage yards, secound hand stores, and flea markets. Lets not forget the neighbors trash, because someone elses trash can be your next unique art piece.

As you can see home decorating pictures can be much more than a portrait in a frame!
