Kitchen Pot Rack

kitchen pot rack

This kitchen pot rack has become popular, it was featured on Houzz.com as "the idea of the week." People either love it, think it looks like clutter, or do not like pot racks in general because posts and pans get dusty.

This is our update and opinion on the pot rack......we love it! I think of clutter as messy or organized. Messy clutter would be untensils and pots and pans sitting on the counter top because there's no place to put them.

We have an old house with a small kitchen. Updating and adding built in appliances has left us with one lower cabinet under the sink and 4 drawers.

The pot rack organizes our kitchen and makes cooking more convenient. We placed the pot rack and extra cabinet with additional draweres and counter space in our breakfast room. We expanded our kitchen by utilizing our breakfast room.

Our pots, pans and utensils do not have time for dust to settle on them. Greg and I have been in the food and beverage business for a long time. Greg, a chef, loves to cook and me, an evnet cordinator and banquet manager, loves to put it all together with a little style and ambiance. So as I was saying...........

A kitchen pot rack makes it convenient to grab your pots and utensils and adds style and organization to your kitchen decor at the same time.

When your flipping through a home decorating magazine or any other kind of magazine and see something you like cut it out, stick it in a folder, it may come in handy some day.

You don't always have to copy exactly, but the clippings may give you good ideas when working on a project. This idea came from one of those magazine clippings.

Low cost projects that really come together are the best projects. The materials for this shelf came from Restores, a Habitat for Humanity store.

Restores is a great store for purchasing new and used materials at a fraction of the cost. Research on the Internet to see if a store is in your area.

The shelf and wood brackets came from Restores. The shelf was actually the front for a piece of furniture, it cost $1.00. The wood brackets, brand new in the package, were $2.00 each.

The copper pipping is a low cost item you'll find in the plumbing department of a hardware store. The S hooks for hanging the utensils can also be found at a hardware store.

The shelf was (1)sanded, (2)primed, (3)painted, (4)and the top was finished with three coats of clear polyurethane, lightly sanding between each coat. The wood brackets were painted to match.

Holes were drilled on the inside of each of the wood brackets, the copper piping was cut, S hooks were placed on the copper pipe, the piping was placed between the two brackets.

Left over copper piping was used for hanging additional utensils. 1)Silver hooks were screwed to the bottom of the upper cabinets. 2)S hooks were placed on the copper piping. 3)The piping was placed through the hooks. 4)Copper caps were put on each end of the copper piping to give it a more finished look and to keep it from sliding.
