Landscaping Ideas

Now it was time to finish the yard and get creative with some landscaping ideas. Since it was a lake house it was decided to make the yard look like it belonged by the sea. When thinking of the ocean, plants such as sea oats comes to mind.

The ornamental grasses along with wild flowers gave that feel and look of being by the sea. The added bonus to these plants, they're fast growing, easy to take care of and return after a long cold winter. The yard was finished with small brown assorted colored pebbles in the drive way to resemble sand.

Let's not forget the accessories for the yard. A stick trellis was hung by the front door. Stepping stones were placed through the ornamental grasses leading you to the back yard. As you would stroll through the yard you would spot yard accessories such as a terracotta alligator or a terracotta man having a siesta under a tree.

To give the yard more color and the added beach feel, tropical plants were placed inside colorfully painted galvanized trash cans and buckets.

The seaside feeling continued to the back patio with an old comfy glider that was restored and painted white along with colorful metal vintage chairs of lime green, periwinkle and tangerine. The new dock was a cool place to wile away a hot summer day.

This was a great little house that was well worth the labor and little dollars it took to transform it into a cockatoo.
