Large Floor Pillows

I had a few large floor pillows that I wanted to re-cover, so it was time to get a little creative. We recently had fun making a burlap headboard so I thought why not use the extra burlap bags to cover the pillows?

If you have access to used, or new, empty large burlap bags they are great for a lot of different uses. We have a local hardware store that has a steady flow of used burlap coffee bean bags. The bags are sold at a bargain, 99 cents each.

The burlap material mixed with coffee beans makes for a strange odor. The odor will disappear over time with a little help. We sprayed the bags with Febreeze and aired them outside. I washed the bags being used for pillows in a large capacity washer on a gentle setting.

You have to be careful when washing burlap because the material will fray. I let the bags dry naturally, ironing was needed after they had been washed. Even after washing, the coffee bean bags retained a little odor. The odor does disappear over time.

The next steps to making the pillows were very easy.

Materials Needed;

• Large Floor Pillows 24" X 24"
• Burlap Coffee Bean Bags
• Burlap Twine
• Large Needle with Large Eye

How to Make;

Place large pillow inside burlap bag. Tuck end of access burlap inside bag to make it snug on pillow. Smooth material inside the pillow, you will have a folded edge.

Place burlap twine though the large eye needle and tie the same as using thread. Starting at one end of pillow, hand sew the folded edge. Do a wrapping motion with the needle and twine, if you start with the needle at the back of material, continue each time with the needle and twine at the back of the material. A thick edge will be created to match the other edges of the bag.
