Picture Framing Ideas

Here are some simple picture framing ideas for framing art and pictures. Art doesn't have to come from a professional framing store to look good. By breaking a few framing rules you can come up with an art piece that is unique.

The watercolor pictured is framed behind an old rusting fireplace screen that was salvaged from the garage. It's been framed this way for about 10 years and it's not faded or falling apart. No glass is being used, the watercolor just floats behind the fire place screen.

Framing art professionally or on your own can be expensive. Rescuing window frames, window screens, shutters or in this case, a rusting fire place screen from salvage is an inexpensive way to create unique wall art of your own.

Pictured below are some old wood frame screens and windows that are full of character. They were found on a shelf high in the eves of a garage. The cobwebs were dusted away and the screens and windows were put to use framing art and pictures. This is a great way to transforme simple home decorating pictures into something unique.

The black dog is nothing more than a cool looking metal beer sign placed behind a window screen. The painting of the red boots and the pictures are floating behind a window frame. The shutter pictured below gives you a peek of a watercolor painting and the illusion of looking through a window.

Using window or screen frames for art or pictures is easy to do! If desired (1) textured hard paper or frame matts can be used as the background for pictures or art. (2) Insert small eye screws to the top of the screen or window frame. (3)Attach fine wire or thread from the matt to the eye screws to give the art a floating appearance. (4)Run picture hanging wire tight along the top of the frame winding each end around the eye hooks. That's it, your done, now pick a room and a wall.
