Rattan Coffee Table
The rattan coffee table pictured above was headed for a bonfire. As much as we enjoy the bonfire parties my sister-in-law Terri has, we didn't see this table as recycled wood for burning. It's a sturdy table made out of rattan wood, the only thing missing was the table top. My guess is, at one time it probably had a glass table top.
I decided to place the table on our enclosed sun porch. The ceiling on the porch is wainscoting. I wanted to mimic the wainscoting ceiling for the top of the table. We bought a sheet of wainscoting panel at Lowe's. Greg cut two separate sheets and glued them on each section of the table with wood glue. I varnished the table a honey oak color with a varnish and polyurethane combination. I like using the varnish and polyurethane combination, it drys fast and it's a one step process.
One coat of varnish for the table and two coats for the table top. I used a paint brush to varnish the table, a spray varnish would have been easier to get in between the rattan wood. Below is how the rattan coffee table looked when we rescued it from the bonfire. Another piece of furniture we rescued and recycled.
