Wood Kitchen Cabinet

kids kitchens

Pictured is a kid's wood kitchen cabinet that we found at a Flea Market. By making a few changes we made an awesome addition to the kid's kitchen set.

The faucet and sink addition is what really makes the piece unique. The kids have fun filling the sink with water and washing dishes during play time.

We thought the cabinet was too short so we found feet at the hardware store to add some height.

The feet are actually meant for decorating the top of a fence post. The screws were already attached, next we drilled holes in the bottom of the cabinet so we could attach the feet.

Holes were cut out on the counter top of the cabinet to add a faucet and sink. The faucet is a real faucet, but it's for looks only. The sink is a stainless steal bowl.

The faucet will turn on and off, however, only imaginary water will come from it. The sink can be removed to add water for play time and to pour it out after play time is over.

To make this piece look like it belonged with the stove and refrigerator we used some of the same colors. The bright blue for the counter top, the apple green for the feet and we introduced a new color, yellow for the doors and top shelves. A design was painted around the sink, cabint doors and around the top edge of the cabinet.

The cabinet was finished with hooks above the sink area to hang cups. We didn't use the iron pull handles that were used for the stove and refrigerator. Instead, we decided to add hand painted glass door knobs to open the cabinet doors.
