Wood ShelvingA little imagination can go a long way when looking at industrial wood shelving. Take a second look when you see wood shelves at your local home improvement center. We bought a couple shelves for our laundry room and then added a couple more to the kitchen. They are great for displaying items and adding extra storage that is needed. The wood shelving you see in the photo are two stacked on top of each other. They are each about three feet high and are a natural knotty pine. We didn't do anything to them, however, you can use your creativity and paint or stain them any color you would like.
The wood shelves mimic the antique shoe display rack that we bought at an antique store quite a few years ago. We don't display shoes, but it makes a great place for dishes in the dinning room. The antique shoe rack shelves are slanted and have industrial wheels. We didn't paint or stain the shelves, we just gave it a good washing and started displaying our dishes.
The newer shelves we bought at our local home improvement center do not have wheels. If you want to mimic the look of the antique shoe rack, wheels can be easily added. Wooden dowels attached to the back center of each shelf would complete the look of the original shoe rack shelf. This is easy to do by drilling holes in both sides and sliding the dowel through the holes. If you like shopping junk stores, flea markets and antique stores, keep your eye out for an antique shoe rack. They make good conversation pieces and and are great for displaying your collectibles or maybe your wine collection. Share this page with your Facebook friends by clicking the Like button.
