Wood Storage Cabinet

This is a great pine wood storage cabinetwe found in the basement of our old restaurant.

When we found the cabinet it was painted green, we just washed it down and I started using it to store my art supplies. Now we have the cabinet in our dinning room so it was time for a face lift.

I decided to paint it black because we have a touch of black here and there in the dinning room . Our sisal rug is trimmed with black burlap, there is also a touch of black in our Hoosier Cabinet turned buffet cabinet.

I wanted to maintain the cabinets vintage look so I left nail holes, scratches and dents. After painting it black, I sanded all of the edges to expose some of the green color underneath.

1. Prepared the cabinet for painting by sanding with medium weight sand paper (liquid sander can also be used).
2. Washed all the sanded dust off the cabinet.
3. Spray painted all the hardware with satin metal paint.
4. Painted the cabinet with black latex satin paint.
5. Let paint dry completely (I let it dry overnight).
6. With medium sandpaper, sanded all the edges of the cabinet to expose green paint.
7. Finished by washing the sanded dust off the cabinet.

I refinish a lot of furniture pieces. This cabinet was easy by comparison becuase I left the dents and painted over the original color. My actual work time was 3-4 hours. The pine cabinet is great as extra storage space for dishes.
